About the Volkswagen 1300 Beetle
Even in this age of sophistication, the popularity of the Volkswagen "Beetle" has not diminished. The original design dates back to the 1930`s when Dr. Ferdinand Porsche provided the design framework for the "People`s Car."
Today, with more than 20 million units produced, the Volkswagen Beetle has become a symbol of mass-produced motorization, with no other vehicle exceeding this figure. Built upon the sturdy platform chassis is the amazingly reliable air cooled, flat-four cylinder engine. Suspension is four wheel independent for crisp handling and driving comfort. Although the onset of the Second World War greatly hindered Volkswagen`s marketing opportunities, it made a superb comeback shortly following the conflict, under the skillful guidance of Heinrich Nordhoff. Throughout its production life, the Volkswagen was continuously improved to meet modern automobile standards. An enlarged powerplant displacement and better visibility are two of the notable changes that enabled the Beetle to set standards for the compact car market, decade after decade.
The 1966 Volkswagen model is regarded as the classic Beetle, one that retains the most of the original design traits, and it has become a collector`s item. Even today, more than half a century later, watching a nimble street bug is still a pleasant sight to behold, and its unmistakable shape will likely delight generations to come.

About the Honda F-1 RA272 Model
The 1965 Mexican Grand Prix was not just the last race of the season, but also the last Formula-One race using normally aspirated 1.5 liter displacement engines. The car that won this memorable even was Honda`s highly competitive RA272 racing machine, driven by the skilled driver Richie Ginther. Honda was the first Japanese car manufacturer to participate in F-1 Grand Prix racing, and this was their first F-1 victory since entering the 1964 German Grand Prix. Honda competed in the 1964 season using their RA271 machine, piloted by the young American driver Ronnie Bucknum. Although the RA271 occassionally showed a glimpse of its hidden potential, it failed to record any remarkable results. A discouraging season lead Honda to develop a much more integrated F-1 racing machine. Following the 1964 season, Honda thoroughly improved the machine and redesignated it the RA272. Its high tech and powerful, transversely mounted V-12 cylinder engine was said to yield an amazing 220 plus horsepower. Richie Ginther joined the team beginning the season, and his racing experience helped the team in further refining the RA272. He gained 6th place in the Belgian and Dutch GP`s, and finally won the Mexican victory on October 24th 1965. Taking the lead just after the start, Ginther`s RA272 recorded a perfect win, without yielding the top position throughout the race. Partner Bucknum also earned 5th place, adding to Honda`s racing laurels.

About the LOTUS 25 Coventry Climax
Throughout the history of Formula 1 Grand Prix starting from 1950, Formula 1 cars have undergone numerous innovative developments. Many of them were accomplished by the Team Lotus led by a genius, Colin Chapman. Above all, invention of the monocoque construction chassis was one of his most epoch-making creations. It was in 1962 when the Team Lotus entered their Lotus 25 using the monocoque construction chassis for the first time in the Formula one history. The monocoque frame formed by bending thin aluminum plates made it possible to obtain rigidity and lighter weight at the same time, compared to the "Space Frame" construction with steel pipes which was commonly used until then. The Lotus 25 was powered by the highly reliable 1.5 liter, V8 cylinder engine developed by the Coventry Climax. The front suspension system used rocking arm inboard spring type, while the rear end used lower A and upper I arms with two radius rods. With the talented driver Jim Clark at the wheel, the Lotus 25 earned three victories in its debut season of 1962. In the following 1963 season, the Lotus 25 and Jim Clark gained stunning seven victories out of ten races, bringing not only the driver`s championship to him but also the manufacturer`s title to Lotus for the first time. With its innovative features, the Lotus 25 had a profound influence in the design of the Formula 1 cars, and the glorious history of the Lotus arose from this car.

About the MORRIS Mini Cooper Rally
The basic design came from Sir Alec Issigonis, a British subject from Greece, in 1959. To that John Cooper, of racing fame souped up the engine and it was so well received by the B.M.C. (British Motor Company) that they produced it in quantity, giving it the name of Morris Mini Cooper, and therein lies the saga of the Monte Mini. Initially, the Morris Mini was a comfortable, compact, about the town, automobile, that was easy to drive and park. It could carry four large English gentlemen with ease or four rather stout English Women. It has a top speed of about 87 mph, but it could out perform the great Porsches.
Shortly after its release tot h public, the Morris Mini Cooper was recognized as a possibly excellent rally car, due to its positive performance on slippery surfaces. The annual Monte Carlo Rally is held during the harsh winters of Europe and this little car was so easy to handle on snowy surfaces because of its front wheel drive, that a number of them began to be built up for racing. The famed Porsche 911 could easily overtake it on a dry course, but the Mini soon overtakes it on the curves and wet slippery surfaces. The Mini Cooper`s first Monte Carlo win was in 1964, and then they did it again in 1965. They also won the next year in 66, taking the first three places, but were disqualified when they were found to have aux-lights that were against the rules of that time. They came back again in 1967 with Aaltonen and Liddon winning in a Mini Cooper 1275S, thereby affirming and atoning for the previous years of disgrace of disqualification. During this race, 4 aux-lights were mounted in front of the radiator grill, and the racing number plate (177) was moved to just above the windshield. On its roof was mounted a carrier to haul the spare tires required. This race required a use of no more than eight tires with all of them carried on or within the car itself. Both the front and rear windshields had defrosters added for the cold climate of the race. Yes, the Mini won again, and it is interesting to note that no British car has won the Monte Carlo rally since then.

About the Ferrari F2001 Scale Model
In the 2001 racing season Ferrari`s new F2001 machine would capture the Constructors` and Drivers` Championships equipped with the longitudinally mounted 3000 Ferrari Tipo 050 V10 engine incorporating an electro-hydraulic 7-speed gearbox in pre-machined welded titanium. After the ban was lifted on traction control, launch control and other high-tech devices at the 5th race in Spain, the F2001 was finished with an arsenal of new equipment to further outclass rivals. By the 13th race Schumacher had already clutched the championship with 9 wins, earning him 53 total wins in his career, as he became the most successful F1 driver of all time and the Ferrari F2001 the undisputed top machine in F1 history.

About the British Tank MATILDA
At the beginning of 1930, the British army made the decision to produce tanks for different roles, with production of the A12 "Matilda" beginning in 1936. At that time, the Matilda had the thickest armor at 60mm, came armed with a 2-pounder cannon, and had thick side skirts which protected the "Japanese type" bogies. Powered by two diesel engines, the Matilda had a top speed of 24km/hr which was deemed appropriate as it matched the walking speed of infantry. At the North African front, thanks to its impenetrable armor, the Matilda completely defeated the opposing Italian forces. Because of the strength of their armor, the Germans began to use 88mm guns which were the only weapons that could penetrate the Matilda. The Matilda was used throughout WWII and was also used by Soviet, Australian, and Allied forces under the Lend-Lease Act.

About the M4A3 Sherman 105mm Howitzer
The main tank of the US Army during WWII was the M4 Sherman. Now the M4A3 Sherman equipped with the large 105mm Howitzer is available from Tamiya. This tank model uses poly-caps for the raising and lowering of the gun. Gunners hatch and machine gun clamp are included as separately molded parts. Realistic tank tracks come with rubber pads (paintable) for enhanced authenticity. Three infantry figures from the Ardennes battlefields and the tank commander figure bring a "midst of battle" atmosphere to the kit. About the Sd.Kfz.222
Among the many armored cars developed by Germany in WWII, the Sd.Kfz.222 is one of the most widely recognized. This light 4x4 vehicle had a distinctive hull shape thanks to its welded construction, and featured an open turret with mesh covers to protect the 3 crew members against grenades and shrapnel. It was armed with a 20mm cannon and 7.92mm machine gun and its exceptional off-road capability made it an excellent reconnaisance vehicle.

The German army in WWII used a wide variety of wheeled vehicles as part of their overall strategy of fast mechanized warfare. Among the most widely used was the 3Ton 4x2 Cargo Truck, a truck design that was first produced in the 1930s. Featuring a dependable 6-cylinder gasoline engine,the 3Ton 4x2 Cargo Truck could take on a very large payload disproportionate to its size. They proved to be not only extremely reliable, but also very versatile, and were employed in a wide variety of roles, including fuel truck, ambulance, radio truck, as well as general-purpose cargo truck.
