About the Porsche 962C 1990 REPSOL
To comply with new Group C regulations in 1982, Porsche used their vast experience to develop the practically unbeatable 956. Porsche modified the car to participate in the American IMSA series, resulting in the 962, which was again modified to meet the new 1985 Group C regulations produce the 962C. Featuring a powerful liquid-cooled 3-liter twin turbo flat-6 engine and 17 inch front and 19 inch rear wheels, the 962C proved to be just as successful as the 956. Although in 1989, the Porsche works teams withdraw their 962C from endurance racing, it continued racing with privateer teams until 1994. At the 1990 Le Mans 24 Hour, the Repsol Brun Motorsport Team`s 962C went on to win 2nd place.

Introduction
The latest addition to our 1/16 scale World Figure Series is a German infantryman carrying a large machine gun tripod. Reproduced in exquisite detail, the large scale makes it possible to admire the tripod�s mechanical features. German soldier in European campaign dress is perfect for displaying alongside ITEM 36307 German Wehrmacht Infantryman.
The Type 36 field uniform, which was used in the early stages of WWII, had a green collar and insignia base. These were made the same color as the rest of the uniform for the subsequently produced Type 40.
In 1942, the MG42 became the main machine gun of the German army, and a tripod was used to provide accurate firing. Combined with optical sights, it was able to provide firing range of over 3000m. The collapsible tripod weighed 21kg and was easily portable.

Following the successful entry of the Focke-Wulf Fw190 A series of fighter aircraft over the English channel during the autumn of 1941, the German RLM requested a high altitude version to complement the fighter fleet, and three projects were started. The Fw 190B used the B.M.W. 801 turbo-supercharged radial engine and a pressurized cockpit, but very few of these were built. The Fw190C was powered by a 1,750hp Daimler Benz DB603A in-line engine, of which three prototypes were built. The third high altitude project was based on the Focke Wulf Fw190A airframe and powered by a Junkers engine. The fuselage was lengthened to accommodate the V-12 cylinder, liquid cooled, 1,750hp Jumo 213 engine, and made its initial flight during the winter of 1941-42, Five further prototypes were produced, plus a small batch of Fw190 D-0s were completed from standard production Fw 190A-7 airframes. These pre-production aircraft were followed by the Fq-190D-1`s which had the increased area vertical fin and rudder. There were no Fq190 D-2 through D-8 designations. The Fw-190D9 began production in June 1944, with early versions having the flat topped canopy, and from W.Nr 210001 onwards having the Galland hood (blown canopy). It went into combat with the III/JG 54 "Grunherz" (Green Hearts) in September 1944, at Achmer, Germany, as top cover for the new Messerschmitt Me262 jet fighters then entering service.

The Thunderbirds aerial acrobatics team were originally activated on May 25, 1953 at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona for two purposes: to provide young pilots with ample training for frontline aerial combat, and to show the American public the impressive capabilities of U.S. airpower. Known for flying in the "diamond" four plane formation, the Thunderbirds frequently demonstrate dynamic loops, low-altitude rolls and vertical climbing which seems to contradict the laws of aeronautic. The unit`s first aircraft was the straight-winged F-84G Thunderjet, a combat-proven fighter-bomber that had seen extensive action in the Korean War. The first F-84`s to be mass-produced were the B,C,D, and E types, which were followed by the sturdy G-types. These aircraft possessed incredibly high stability at low altitudes, a factor that led to their extensive use as ground attack aircraft in the Korean War. The Thunderbirds were almost outwardly identical to the frontline fighters. The only difference was that the machine gun was removed and replaced with a ballast weight, although the muzzle of the gun remained. The first official air show of the Thunderbirds was on June 8th 1853, after which began a tour of 11 countries in Central and South America. In Feb 1955, after their132nd demonstration, the F-84G was replaced by the F-84F Thunderstreak, which would later give way to the F-100 Super Sabre, followed by the F-4E Phantom and the F-16C.
The world famous American aerial acrobatic team, the Thunderbirds, first got their start in May of 1953. During WWII, many young and inexperienced pilots were sent into aerial combat flying heavy and difficult to maneuver aircraft. Public demonstrations of aerial maneuverability and aircraft safety gave younger pilots much needed training and ensured that they were battle worthy before encountering real combat. The F-84G Thunderjet gloriously led these demonstrations, securing itself a position in the illustrious history of the Thunderbirds team. Tamiya recreated a 1/48 scale version of this aircraft last year. For 2001, an all new 1/72 Chrome-metallic version of the Thunderbirds aircraft is being released, sporting decals for the 1953 or 1954 seasons. This detailed 1/72 scale model has been designed with ease-of-assembly as a high priority and comes with a handy display stand.

The year 1987 brought a new sponsor and new colors to the pioneering F1 constructor Team Lotus, and a joint venture with Honda added the powerful V6 turbocharged engine and Japanese driver Nakajima. With carbon fiber monocoque frame designed by French engineer Gerard Ducarouge, the 99T incorporated further innovation in the form of an active computerized suspension system which continually adjusts hydraulic settings to compensate for ever-changing track conditions, speed, steering and weight. Genius driver Ayrton Senna demonstrated the amazing capabilities of the 99T when he took the checkered flag at the Monaco and Detroit GPs, claiming 3rd place in the Drivers` and Constructors` Title.

Team Lotus of automobile racing fame, was founded by the late Colin Chapman, and made their racing debut during the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix. Since then, they have established a reputation for creating advance and innovating racing machines that often became benchmarks in Grand Prix racing. During the 1992 season, Team Lotus, led by managing director Peter Collins, showed impressive performance using their newly developed Type 107 racing machine. Unveiled in January 2007, the Fairlady Z Version Nismo was a collaborative effort produced by Nissan Motorsport International (Nismo) and Autech Japan, Inc. Featuring a slightly tuned 313hp VQ35HR V6 engine, the car was structurally reinforced and had a specially-made suspension for improved handling characteristics. In addition, lessons learned from the Super GT race series were applied to the car`s aerodynamics package, resulting in greater downforce. Other distinguishing features include new body aero parts, a new rear spoiler, custom interior, and stylish 5-spoke wheels.

During the 1960`s, the Japanese racing scene was striving to catch up with high performance racing machines of European origin. One manufacturer called Prince developed the first Japanese prototype racing machine, named the R380.
With a powerful-in-line six cylinder DOHC engine mounted amidships under a low and sleek body, the R380 won the 1996 Japanese Grand Prix race event and established several world speed records in the following year. The Prince company merged with Nissan, and unveiled a special 4-door sedan Skyline model during the 1968 Tokyo Motor Show. Priced at almost double that of other Skylines in the stable, it was transplanted with a de-tuned powerplant of the R380 racer`s unit. This hot-blooded Skyline was launched into the market in February 1969, under the designation of GT-R. The 1,989cc DOHC 6-cylinder S20 type engine yielded 160hp of maximum output. In October 1970, the original 4-door sedan GT-R was replaced with a more sporty, 2-door hard-top model.
Its designation "R" stood for racing, the Skyline GT-R virtually dominated Japanese racing circuits from the late 60`s to early 70`s. The 4-door and 2-door Skyline 2000 GT-R`s accomplished 50 respectable victories in domestic races during that period, establishing the famous "GT-R legend" among the Japanese motor racing enthusiasts.

The thrilling race action of the 2000 German Touring Car Masters (DTM) captivated motorsports fans across Europe. In this first year of the new DTM, a total of nineteen machines were entered: eight cars from four Mercedes-Benz teams, eight cars from four Opel Astra teams, and three Audi TT-R`s. Although the outward appearance of the cars remained faithful to their production counterparts, the "guts" were purely for racing. The tires, 6-speed sequential transmission, differential gearing, brakes, and rear wing were made compatible to keep costs down and reduce the performance gap between cars, thus paving the way for highly competitive racing. One of the most promising machines to be entered in the DTM was the HWA tuned Mercedes Benz CLK, which underwent vigorous testing and was soon regarded as a favorite for victory. This car was equipped with reliable rear wheel drive and powered by a 450hp outputting 4000cc V8 engine. Warsteiner`s car featured the logo of Warsteiner, the famous German beer maker, over a sleek black body. Veteran driver Klaus Ludwig and rookie Marcel Fassler were chosen to take the wheel of this finely tuned car. Ludwig took a double victory in Sachsenring, heat 7 and 8 and Fassler took second place in both heats at Hockenheim, and again in Nurburgring. Bernd Schneider of the D2 Mercedes team took the overall championship for the season. The Warsteiner AMG Mercedes team achieved an impressive third place finish in the Manufacturers` Rankings.

Since its debut in 1963, the epoch-making Porsche 911 has captivated generations of sports car enthusiasts. Over the years, various models of the 911 have been released, including the 1998 Le Mans-winning 911 GT1. In 1999, the "heart" of that automotive masterpiece, the water-cooled flat-six engine, was inherited by the Porsche 911 GT3. The brainchildren behind that machine are Porsche`s development engineers in Weissach, who imbued it with superior agility and handling, without compromising active safety. Capable of accelerating to 100km/h in a mere 4.8 seconds, and with a top speed of 302km/h, the GT3 achieved a new record for production cars when it completed a lap on the northern circuit of Nuerburgring in only 7.56 minutes. The exterior appearance of the GT3 remains true to that of its predecessors, but features a new rear end, discreet side-sills, fixed rear wing, red brake calipers and sporty 18-inch light-alloy wheels. Compared with the 911 Carrera, the four-piston aluminum fixed monobloc brake calipers are larger and sturdier than before, and tightly grip the perforated brake discs. The GT3 cockpit is true reflection of its performance. It features leather-covered bucket seats, which ensure not only ample side support, but also comfort on long journeys and provide about 20kg of weight savings. And since the entire rear-seat section of the car has been dropped, the overall weight of the GT3 was reduced by another 8kg-a true benefit for a sports car of this performance level.
Tamiya has recreated this epoch-making sports car in 1/24 scale. The intricate engine is visible when model is viewed from below. The upper surface features a four part rear-wing construction, enhancing the sophistication of the body design. Kit also comes with the Porsche emblem, authentically recreated as a metal transfer. The inside of the detailed cockpit includes a carpet seat for the floor. Glossy metallic parts are used on the wheels, headlight reflectors, door mirrors and muffler.

One of the most prestigious and grueling racing events held is the "Le Mans 24 Hour Endurance Race". It has brought excitement and pleasure to motorsports enthusiasts worldwide, ever since it was first held in 1923.
In 1996 Porsche, who had been idle in motorsport competitions as a works team since their withdrawal in 1988, announced their intention to come back to the Le Mans 24 hour endurance race with their latest Porsche 911 GT1. Although the styling of the GT1 retains some resemblance with their conventional 911, it is not the usual 911 but a highly advanced pure racing version. Front and rear 18 inch wheels are fitted with wide racing slicks, and power assisted carbon discs with ABS provide positive stopping power.
In spite of its exceptionally short developing period of only 8 months, the Porsche 911 GT1 gained respectable second and third places in the 1996 Le Mans event, bringing motorsport glory back again to Porsche.

About the Wolf WR1 1977
Walter Wolf Racing was founded in 1977 by Canadian businessman Walter Wolf and his team`s WR1 competed from 1977 until the 1978 Monaco GP. Driven by Jody Scheckter, the WR1 won on its debut at the 1977 Argentina GP, which was a great accomplishment as it was the first race for both the team and car. The WR1, created by Hesketh Racing designer Harvey Postlethwaite, was light and considerably compact. Four WR1s were made and designated with chassis numbers WR1-WR4. They were all basically the same but depending on the course, two kinds of wheelbases were prepared. J. Scheckter also won the Monaco and Canadian GPs and claimed 2nd in the 1977 drivers` championship.

About the Williams FW-13B RENAULT
Drastic regulation changes for F-1 events, took effect starting the 1989 Formula-One racing season. One regulation banned turbo-charged engines, limiting cars to normally aspirated powerplants with a maximum displacement of 3.5 liters. To comply with the new regulations, the renowed Williams racing team, together with Renault, created the FW12C racing car for the `89 season, using Renault`s V-10 cylinder type RS1 powerplant. Later that year the team introduced an improved FW13 racer, which placed 2nd in the constructor`s title competition. This potent machine was further advanced for the 1990 season, by incorporating a new and compact Renault RS2 V-10 engine, and redesignated the FW13B. Chief designer Patrick Head cleverly shaped this racing machine to penetrate the wind with ease. The gear box is transverse mounted, allowing the rear under-wing to provide a more effective downforce. The full vertically mounted front suspension spring/dampers form a unique front nose silhouette, and the tall and wide air intake pod located on the rear cowling provides excellent air flow. Over the years Williams have always sought to achieve competitive excellence, and combined with the highly reputed driving skills of Patrese and Boutsen, the team has achieved some success during the 1990 season.
