"The Longest Day in France", also known as the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, takes place two hundred kilometers southwest of Paris, in the city of Le Mans. This high-speed circuit is made up of public roads closed off for the race, which stretch to 13.6 kilometers in length-the world`s longest circuit track. Throughout the long history of the Le Mans, two or three major manufacturers have always fought for the top honors, but the 1999 race boasted six major contenders. The Toyota GT-One TS020 led the grueling 24 hour event right up until one hour before the finish, when it was struck with an untimely tire blowout, but still managed to finish second. Subtle refinements to the sleek carbon fiber composite body of the GT-One TS020 were conducted in the pursuit of optimal aerodynamics. The 3600cc V8 twin turbo R36V engine also underwent various modifications, improving power, torque, and fuel efficiency.

After winning the Driver`s Title of the World Rally Championship three years in succession, Tommi Makinen and the Mitsubishi Ralliart Team returned to challenge the 1999 season with the Lancer Evolution VI.
This latest inception of the Evolution features two main cosmetic changes, a modified spoiler on the front and a two level spoiler on the rear. However, due to a FIA restriction on wing area, the lower wing of the rear spoiler had to be blocked up with a carbon panel. Pumping out 290ps, the powerplant of the Lancer VI features a 4G 63 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine equipped with a DOHC-intercooled twin scroll turbocharger (Post Combustion Control System) and ECI multi-injection fuel system. Depending upon course conditions, the single scroll turbocharger for more power, or the twin scroll turbocharger for greater response can be selected. The suspension, just like that of the production car, consists of independent McPherson struts with coil spring on the front, and independent multi-link with coil spring on the rear.
Winner of the 1998 World Rally Championship, Finland`s Tommi Makinen and Belgium`s Freddy Loix drive this proven machine. Makinen chalked up third position on the Telstra Rally Australia, clinching the 1999 FIA World Rally Championship. Triumphing for an amazing fourth successive year, Makinen enjoys the longest reign in the history of the WRC.

The 1997 World Rally Championships saw a relaxing in the rules pertaining to vehicle modification. Subaru was the first team to take advantage of the leeway, bringing out the Impreza WRC. That machine featured all aluminum horizontal four cylinder turbo engine paired with a vertically mounted gearbox. The layout placed the gearbox in a balanced position behind the front axle, heightening manerverability and ultimately contributing to a Mnufactures Championship for that year.
The bulk of the improvements to the 1999 model centered around the engine and gearbox. Foremost was the adoption of an electronically controlled throttle system. This system converts the position of the throttle in to electronic signals, heightening throttle response. The Impreza WRC was also equipped with a 6-speed, semi-automatic gearbox. This system enables sudden shifting, such as from 6th to 1st gear. Work is also continuing on the development of an electronically controlled damper system.
The Impreza WRC is driven by J. Kankkunen, R. Burns and B. Thiry. Kankkunen and Burns finished in 1st and 2nd place respectively at both the 7th Argentina Rally and the 10th Finland Rally. The 8th Acropolis Rally was also taken by Burns, setting the scene for an intense contest in the latter half of the season.

About the Toyota Corolla WRC
In its long and illustrious career in the World Rally Championships, Toyota has mainly used the Celica as its flagship. In 1997, however, a rule change in the WRC presented Toyota with a chance to demonstrate its innovation.
Permission was granted to equip the base of the Toyota`s widely marketed production car with a turbo-charge and four-wheel drive system, as well as modify the engine without restriction. The more compact body of the Corolla was chosen for the development of the new rally car, and the Corolla WRC car was born. Using components tried and tested on the Celica, the Corolla WRC was equipped with a front loaded, 2-litre, 4-cylinder 3S-GTE turbo engine and 4-wheel drive. Highly reliable MacPherson struts make for a winning suspension on both the front and rear. In addition, the side of the steering column was equipped with a sequential shift lever, called a "joystick", allowing a 6-speed transmission control. With hydraulic brakes that automatically sense the movement of the wheels and a center differential equipped with a hang-on clutch, the Corolla WRC is stock full of the latest electronic gadgetry.
A size smaller than the Celica, the Corolla WRC is perfectly suited for the winding country roads of the Rally. The Corolla WRC debuted in the Finland Rally of 1997, which led to a half year of testing before fully entering the WRC in 1998. Main drivers Carlos Sainz and Didier Auriol showed winning skill.

The name "Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution" made its first appearance at the 1973 World Rally Championships. After that, the Lancer participated on and off in rally activity until its return to the WRC in 1993.
The reborn Lancer Evolution adopted a 4WD system, and was equipped with a 2L DOHC turbo engine, called the 4G63. Achieving a 2nd place finish in both the Indonesia Rally and the RAC Rally, the Lancer showed the world a glimpse of its speed. From the Evolution II in 1994, to the Evolution III in 1995, the Lancer was under continual development. In 1996, the Evolution III, driven by Tommi Makinen, won five races earning him a Driver`s Title. Driving the Evolution IV in the following year, Tommi Makinen became a repeat champion. In 1998, the Evolution V made its debut in the 5th Catalonian Rally. The Evolution`s most impressive feature is its wide body. With a blister fender on the front, and a fiberglass over fender on the rear, the width of the body was expanded to 177mm.
Furthermore, by changing the shape of the front bumper and hood ducts, as well as by adding moveable wings and spoilers, the Evolution V was given even more punch. An electrically controlled active differential was adopted in the rear, as well as in the center and front of the car, ensuring high traction. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V, driven by Tommi Makinen, showed the power of a champion throughout the year.

Warm sunshine and crisp breeze are all we can enjoy from open air cruising with roadsters. However, once it rains, the comfort with a soft top is inferior to closed body cars with hard top. The Mercedes-Benz developed and unveiled their SLK in 1996 with an epochal roof open-close system, to cancel the handicap of traditional roadsters.
It was named after initials of three German words, "Sportlich (sporty)", "Leicht (light)" and "Kompact (compact)", which tell what this car is all about. The folding metal roof, called "Vario Roof", is fully automatic in its operation, when the driver merely presses a button on the console. The entire opening and closing process of the roof takes only 25 seconds. With this hi-tech mechanics, the Mercedes made it possible for the owner to enjoy the privileges of both a roadster and a coupe in one car.
Three sorts on engines are offered for the SLK, and among them, a 4 cylinder DOHC engine with displacement of 2.3 liter is top-of-the-line. Having a super charger, the output measures 193 horsepower and it is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission. The front suspension uses double wishbones while the Mercedes 5-arm multilink suspension is equipped at the rear for excellent road holding.
The SLK combines the exciting looks and driving pleasure which are a typical feature of open-top sportscars, with the technical perfection of the modern Mercedes car engineering.

In addition to the highly modified Japanese cars, the super cars of Europe, like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, vie for the title.
During the 1995 season Toyota entered a fleet of their race tuned Supra GT`s into this popular event. Packed into the Supra look alike body shell was Toyota`s latest racing technology. A 2,140cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged powerplant was taken from Toyota`s Eagle Mk.III racing machine, which was active during the `93 IMSA races in the U.S.A. The X-Trac developed sequential 6-speed gearbox efficiently transmitted this engine`s awesome power to the rear wheels. Four wheel double wishbone suspension components were taken from another Toyota prototype racer, the TS010. The body shell was extensively modified to obtain even better aerodynamics. Additional air intakes and outlets, oversized fenders and a huge rear spoiler, gave its massive silhouette an even more aggressive appearance.
Four different racing teams used the Supra during the `95 season. Among them, the Toyota Sard racing team used the skilled driver Jeff Krosnoff. The Toyota Sard Supra pleased the racing fans with its outstanding performance throughout the season.

About the Austin Mini Cooper 1275S. Mk.1
Genius designer Sir Alec Issigonis was the driving force behind the quintessential British automobile, the Mini. In 1959, the British tamiya-automotive-1-24-austin-mini-cooper-1275s-z-24235.html>Motor Company released two versions of the Mini based on their Morris and Austin brands-the Morris Mini Minor and the Austin Seven. The most salient characteristic of the Mini was its roominess. Despite a 3m body length, the Mini could comfortably fit four large adults with room to spare. This economy of space was accomplished by using a compact two-box layout, which positioned the transmission and gearbox in the oil sump. Four-wheel independent suspension and small diameter 10" wheels ensured a low and balanced ride. The popularity of the Mini grew and soon the Mk.II and Mk.III versions were born. In 1961, John Cooper of British racing fame souped-up the engine and introduced it to the public as the Morris Mini Cooper. Later, the Mini Cooper S was also created for race and rally participation. The finest version of the "S" type, the Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.I was released in 1964. It featured a 1275cc engine and was entered in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, among many higher-powered opponents. What it lacked in power, it made up for in nimbleness, taking the overall victory in the `64, `65 and `67 races. Both the Morris and Austin versions of the Mini Cooper S were built, differing from each other only in grill design and emblem. And while a new version of Mini was announced in September 2000, the worldwide popularity of the original Mini remains as strong as ever.

About the Subaru Impreza WRC 2001
Soon after the adoption of the new regulations for the World Rally Championships in 1997, Subaru boldly entered their Impreza WRC. That well-balanced machine was equipped with a powerful horizontally opposed 4 cylinder turbo engine, and secured that year`s Manufacturers Title. In the following years, various improvements were made to the car in accordance with changes in the production model. The 2001 Impreza adopted a four-door sedan body and first showed itself at the season opener, the Monte Carlo Rally. About the Ferrari F2001 "Full-View"
After Jody Sheckter took the Drivers` Title in 1979, Ferrari struggled to achieve significant results. However, after winning Constructor`s Championship in the 1999 season, the team regained its dominance and basked in the glory of a long awaited Drivers` and Constructors` Championship dual title in 2000. With drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello behind the wheel again the following year, the team kept up its relentless pace as Ferrari, Shell, and Schumacher humbled all challengers by earning the most amount of points ever ammassed in an F1 season so far. One highlight of the F2001 machine was its longitudinally mounted 3000 Ferrari Tipo 050 V10 engine with electro-hydraulic 7-speed gearbox in pre-machined welded titanium. Due to new FIA regulations to improve safety, body alterations were called for that would compromise down force. to maintain aerodynamics, the body was redesigned under the guidance of technical director Rory Byrne with a new slanted nozzle and curved front wing, as well as lowered rear cowling. Suspension was refined with precision, and weight savings effectively achieved. After the ban was lifted on traction control, launch control and other high-tech devices at the 5th race in Spain, the F2001 was finished off with an arsenal of new equipment to further outclass rivals. By the 13th race Schumacher had already clutched the championship with 9 wins, earning him 53 total wins in his career, as he became the most successful F1 driver of all time and the Ferrari F2001 the undisputed top machine in F1 history.

About the Martini Porsche 935/78 - 1978 Le Mans Entrant
In the late 1970s, Porsche was dominant in GT and sports racing. For the 1978 race season, Porsche designed the 935/79 Turbo with the goal of claiming the Le Mans 24 hours title. The new longer, ground-hugging body of the car dropped the ride-height 75mm and pushed the limits on the silhouette regulation. Because of the 935/78`s unique, body design, the vehicle earned the nickname "Moby Dick". The vehicle featured a 3.2 liter, air-cooled twin-turbo engine with four valves per cylinder and Porsches`s first liquid-cooled cylinder heads, which produced 850hp. The team entered the 935/78 Turbo in the World Championships for Makes Round 4, as a test for the Le Mans race, and in an impressive debut won. At the 1978 Le Mans 24 Hours, the 935/78 qualified 3rf, but fell to an overall 8th place finish as a result of mechanical problems.

About the Xanavi NISMO GT-R
After 5 years away from the racing track, two GT-R racing cars, #22 and #23, were entered by NISMO in the 2008 Japanese Super GT Series. The GT-R came back with a bang with a one-two finish at the season`s opening race, and even with a 55kg handicap the GT-R went on to record back to back wins at the second race of the season. The power source of the GT-R is a 4494cc V8 NA engine which pumps out over 500ps. Introduction
KDS900 is designed specially for RC helicopter. It is a high quality and precision gyro. The gyro adopts AVCS, high performance SMM sensor and controller. It features excellent location capiblity, and stable yaw rate which can avoid influence from external variables, such as rotation speed of rotor head on helicopter, flight speed and crosswind. With these advantages, you can greatly enjoy your flight with KDS900 gyro.
The performance of gyro is closely related to servos. The quicker the respone of servos, the better the sensitivity and performance of gyro. It is recommended to use Futaba S9253, S9254, S9257, S9256 or BLS251 to match KDS900 gyro.
AVCS Gyro
Conventional gyros send control signals to the rudder only when the tail of the helicopter moves. When the tail stops moving, the control signal from the gyro becomes zero. Conversely, the AVCS gyro continues to send control signals to the servo even when the tail of the helicopter stops moving. The following sequentially describes the conventional gyro and the AVCS gyro.
Operation of Conventional Gyro
Basic operation is described by considering the case when the helicopter is hovering under crosswind conditions. With a conventional gyro, when the helicopter encounters a crosswind, the force of the crosswind causes the tail of the helicopter to drift. When the tail stops drifting, the control signal from the gyro becomes zero. If the crosswind continues to cause the tail to drift in this state, the ��stop�� operation is repeated until the tail faces downwind. This is called the ��weathervane�� effect.
Operation of AVCS Gyro
Conversely, with an AVCS gyro, when the helicopter encounters a cross-wind and the tail drifts, a control signal from the gyro stops the drift. At the same time, the gyro computes the drift angle and constantly outputs a control signal that resists the crosswind. Therefore, drifting of the tail can be stopped even if the crosswind continues to effect the helicopter. In other words, the gyro itself automatically corrects (auto trim) changes in helicopter tail trim by crosswind. Considering operation of an AVCS gyro, when the tail of the helicopter rotates, the servo also rotates in accordance with the angle of rotation of the tail. When the tail stops rotating, the servo judges that it has stopped in that position. This the auto trim function.
