About the German Infantry (French War)
During WWII, the German combat uniform included a distinctively-shaped helmet which had a stretched neckline for added protection. The M36 combat uniform was an overall field gray color with a dark green collar, and featured four front pockets. The German soldiers also wore long black boots along with this basic uniform. At parades, the German soldiers would lift their legs high without bending their knees and perform the intensively impressive "Goose Step March."
Set includes 5 figures to depict German infantry in early-WWII.

Established in 1919, the German motorcycle-orderly-35241.html>motorcycle manufacturer DKW earned international acclaim in the thirties as a producer of finely crafted two-stroke racing motorcycle-orderly-35241.html>motorcycles. It was at this period that the reconnaissance division of the Wehrmacht, focused on mechanization, was accelerating the deployment of motorcycle-orderly-35241.html>motorcycles. At first, the Wehrmacht did not express an interest in the two-stroke engine produced by DKW. In 1938, however, they decide to adopt the 11hp single cylinder two-stroke engine equipped DKW NZ 350 medium cycle. In 1940, production was started on the NZ 350/1 version, specially modified for the Wehrmacht. This new model featured a cast iron engine block, centrifugal air filter, and strengthening braces from the frame to an added luggage carrier. Although it proved unsuitable for heavy cross country use, its light weight and easy handling mad it ideal as a courier cycle in Europe, North Africa and Russia well into World War II.

About the 37mm Antitank Gun (PAK35/36)
It was in 1934 that the German Army ordered Rheinmettal A G to develop a new 3.7cm anti-tank gun. Rheinmettal ranked beside Krupp as the biggest gun maker of Germany and already manufactured the first 3.7cm anti-tank rapid firer in 1918. In 1935, Rheinmettal finished designing the new anti-tank gun. The overall weight was 450kg. Having two rubber-tired wheels, torsion bar suspension system and two rear trail legs, the gun could be easily moved by only a few men. A gun shield of 4mm thickness was fixed for the protection of the gun crew. The gunner was on the left side of the gun and could traverse it by 60 degrees both ways, elevate by 25 degrees and depress by 8 degrees. The loader was on the right side of the horizontal sliding breech block and the gun could make continuous fire at a rate of 15 rounds per minute. The 3.7cm gun which was 45 calibres long had a muzzle velocity of 762 meters per second (when firing and armour-piercing projectile) and penetrated a 48mm armour plate standing erect at a distance of 457 meters. The 3.7cm anti-tank gun was immediately accepted by the German Army and officially designated Anti-tank Gun Model 35/36 (PAK 35/36). In 1936, the Germans began to deliver the gun to the anti-tank gun company of each division as its standard equipment. It is reported that the excellent design of the then typical anti-tank gun exerted a great influence on the progress of anti-tank guns in the Soviet Union, United States, and Japan.

About the Russian Tank DESTROYER SU122
In the 1940s, after the success of German Sturmgeschutz III, the Soviets became interested in assault guns. In the early 1940s, the Soviets had artillery tanks such as the KV-2; however, the KV-2 had many limitations such as the inability to fire on the move. The need for new military armor became evident, in 1941, when the Germans invaded Russia and overwhelmed the KV-2 forces. After this incident, the Soviet army began to rearm and develop assault guns. The first Soviet assault vehicle was the SU-76, which was based off of the T170 light tank. However, the SU-76 fell short of expectations because of its small stature and lightweight. A new assault gun was developed in 1942, using the T-34 chassis and a 122mm howitzer. The vehicle did not disappoint and by January 1943 Soviet military forces were equipped with the new SU-122. The number 122 in the name represents the 122mm howitzer. The SU-122 featured a horn periscope, radio, frontal armor up to 100mm thick, and massive mantlet. The SU-122 was often used as fire support for the tank divisions. However the production of the SU-122 was short lived, and by February 1943, the Soviets stopped production of the SU-122 to produce the JSU-152.

About the British Tank MATILDA
At the beginning of 1930, the British army made the decision to produce tanks for different roles, with production of the A12 "Matilda" beginning in 1936. At that time, the Matilda had the thickest armor at 60mm, came armed with a 2-pounder cannon, and had thick side skirts which protected the "Japanese type" bogies. Powered by two diesel engines, the Matilda had a top speed of 24km/hr which was deemed appropriate as it matched the walking speed of infantry. At the North African front, thanks to its impenetrable armor, the Matilda completely defeated the opposing Italian forces. Because of the strength of their armor, the Germans began to use 88mm guns which were the only weapons that could penetrate the Matilda. The Matilda was used throughout WWII and was also used by Soviet, Australian, and Allied forces under the Lend-Lease Act.

About the British Universal Carrier Mk.II
During World War II, Great Britain and its commonwealth Armies used a vast number of small sized, fully tracked weapons carriers, while the American and German forces relied mainly on half-tracks and wheeled transport. Development of these fully tracked carriers dates back to 1925 when Major (later Lieutenant-General Sir Gifford) Martel constructed a one-man "tankette" to interest the British War Purchasing Office. Since then, variations consisted of machine gun carrier, mortar carrier, light gun tractor etc. These weapons were built by several firms, and although built for specific purposes, they did serve in the early days of the conflict. Experiences at the front however, showed a need for a multi-purpose vehicle, capable of a wide range of tasks. Thus the Universal Carrier Mk. I, and the improved Mk. II came into being about 1940. The Universal Carrier had an open top crew compartment on each side of the engine compartment, and a lightly armored superstructure. The Ford V-8 cylinder engine put out 85 brake horsepower and provided a 48km/h of top speed. Armament and stowage were varied according to its mission, but most typically, it carried a Czech designed .303 inch Bren light machine gun (modified and manufactured by Enfield), plus some other small arms. With its high mobility and adaptability, the Universal Carrier proved satisfactory throughout the conflict, from the African desert to the European campaign.

About the German Field Kitchen Scenery
The Wehrmacht was famous for the fact that on the battlefield, everyone, regardless of class ate the same food. Those rations consisted of basically the same elements that were eaten back in the homeland: bread made of wheat and rye, pork (mainly sausages), and potatoes. In fact, the staple diet of the Wehrmacht was a nutrient rich stew made by mixing all of those ingredients together. Piping hot coffee was also available, making even the most frightening battlefield feel a little more like the home. Distribution of these rations required the "Grobe Feldkuche Hf.13`, a two-wheeled field kitchen, the center of which housed a 200 liter pot. That stew-cooking vessel was double-bottomed, with a layer of glycerin between the inner and outer pot to prevent scorching and to aid in heat preservation. To the left of the pot was a 90 liter coffee maker, which dispensed from a tap. On the right was a range used to cook potatoes and sausages. Fire doors for each of these appliances were on the rear for the stoking of coal and firewood. The front of the field kitchen was the "Vorderwagen Hf.11", a two-wheeled limber, which in addition to seating members of the cooking crew, had a food storage space below the seats and carried the "Speisentragen" food containers. Each Wehrmacht division consisted of baking companies (for bread) and butcher companies (for pork). There, bread was baked in oven trailers and pigs were made into sausage before being supplied to the various units. A single "Grobe Feldkuche Hf. 13" could feed 125 to 225 men.

Powerplants are crucial components for any motorized vehicle and combat vehicles are no exception. Along with fire power and crew protection, maneuverability directly effects survivability. During WWII, Germany`s Tiger I heavy tank initially used a Maybach V-12 cylinder, 21,400cc HL210 P45 gasoline engine. It had a maximum output of 650 horsepower and plenty of low RPM torque; however, propelling a 65 ton chassis through rough terrain was not easy, even for this well engineered unit. On the Russian front during summer months, the engine would overheat and sometimes caught fire, due to the heavy loads and work far exceeding its limits. In order to check the engine oil level and radiator coolant, the Tiger I had to stop every 45 minutes of running time during the summer. Maintenance of the engine was usually the driver`s responsibility, but once trouble occurred, the whole crew was compelled to fixing it. These problems and breakdowns were other "battles" for the crew. At a later date, the improved Maybach HL230 P30 engine, with 700 horsepower was used in late production versions of the Tiger I, the Panther, and the King Tiger. Daily maintenance and repair work were still indispensable, and to make maintenance more efficient, an engineer was dispatched from Maybach to the maintenance company of each Tiger heavy tank battalion, to assist in servicing the engines.
