About the Russian Army Assault Infantry
During World War II, the Russian Armed Forces consisted of five main elements; the Ground Forces, Navy, Air Force, National Air Defense and Armed Forces Support. The Ground Forces represented about 80 percent of the total manpower, being the largest in strength. It had approximately 5,300,000 military effectives at the outbreak of the Russo-German War in June 1941. However, devastating damage brought by the German Mechanized Forces resulted in more than 70 percent losses of its entire troop strength within five months. This led to rapid reorganization of the Ground Forces, and with a help of the harsh winter climate of Russia, they managed to repel German`s advance just in front of Moscow. Due to the heavy losses, reorganized units became much smaller than before. Rifle Forces (infantry) reduced their divisional strength from 14,483 to 10,859. Tank Divisions, which possessed some 20,000 armored vehicles, lost about 70% of them at the initial stage of war. Most surviving Tank Divisions were disbanded, and the available tanks and crews were re-assigned to much smaller units like independent tank battalions or tank brigades. It was in 1945, just prior to the end of the conflict, that the Russian Armed Forces recuperated the pre-war level of their strength.

The main strength of the Russian counter-offensive was their tank troops. Following concentrated fire by their artillery units, the tank troops advanced in three groups, and many infantrymen rode on the tanks of the 2nd and 3rd groups. This infantry practice was unique to Russian tactics and was called "Tankoviy Desant" by the Russians. Since the Russian Ground Forces did not possess armored troop carriers like the German halftracks, an infantry battalion called the `Motor Rifle Unit" was attached to every tank brigade and assigned to close support the tanks. A Motor Rifle Unit consisted of about 500 infantrymen. PPSh-41 or PPS-43 machine guns as support arms. Soldiers carried as many magazines as possible, and advanced while riding on tanks. Once encountering an enemy`s defensive position, infantrymen would disembark from the tank, attack the position, and then return to the tank. These infantrymen were spearheads of the attack, and due to enemy`s defensive fire, liable to sustain heavy casualties.

The standard uniform of the Russian infantrymen during WW2 was a simple blouse called "Gymnastiorka". Early in the conflict, greatcoats and rain capes were often used as wintertime attire. In 1940, a quilted jacket called "Telogreika" was introduced, but not enough quantities were supplied in the beginning.

About the U.S. M151A2 with Tow Missle Launcher
The familiar Jeep was born during WW2 and it is said that it contributed greatly to the allied victory during that time. Following the conflict, this vehicle was widely used by most countries of the world as a small transport for the ground forces and later employed large calibre weapons systems for ground combat support.

The U.S. Army first utilized this small vehicle in ground support firepower, by mounting the newly designed 105mm recoilless rifle in the rear of the Jeep. This weapon was developed to combat heavily armoured tanks and other tracked vehicles; however it was later adapted to anti-personnel operations with the development of anti-personnel shell charges. When the newer 106mm recoilless rifle came into being, it replaced the 105. This weapons system was mounted in the rear part of the Jeep, but could be also dismounted on a tri-pod for fixed use. As the old jeep became replaced with the newer M151 Ford MUTT, the 106 was also adapted to it. When the M151A2 was released during the late 70`s, the model with the 106 rifle mounted was called M825. It had a beefed up rear suspension system to accept the rifles added weight of 325kg. Shortly the TOW missile system replaced the 106 recoiless rifles, as the main anti-tank mobile weapons system. Development of the TOW system began in the 1960`s as a replacement for the large and heavy recoilless rifles. It was combat tested during the Vietnam conflict and proved its power and accuracy. It was further improved and finally replaced most of the 106`s still in service.

Officially it is called the BGM-71A; however, it is most widely called the TOW missile system which stands for Tube launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided, missile system. When the missile is fired at a target, the shooter maintains the target in the cross hairs of the sight. The infrared rays of the missile exhaust are sensed by the optical sight and the computer compensated for the speed of the target and missile, guiding it via the wire trailing back to the vehicle. A far greater percentage of hits are recorded with this system, and it is easier to operate. Maximum range for shooting is 3750m which is much greater than the 1097m effective range of the 106.

About the German Kubelwagen Type 82 Africa Corps
In February of 1936, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche designed a civilian car for use on the German Autobahn. Surprisingly, almost none of these cars were made available to private citizens. The Wehrmacht began secretly appropriating these vehicles for military use. In January 1938, the Wehrmacht presented Dr. Porsche with the specifications for a military version. That November, the prototype was completed and designated the Pkw. K1 (VW-Kubelwagen). The Kubelwagen Type 82 was equipped with a lightweight monocoque body on a torsion bar spring based four wheel independent suspension. Its powerplant consisted of an air-cooled four cylinder 985cc engine, which outputted 23.5hp. Its tremendous performance led to its wide use as a communications vehicle by Wehrmacht units. Because of its reliability and ease of repair, and since its engine did not require a coolant, the Kubelwagen proved particulary effective in North Africa. At the request of various divisions in North Africa for a vehicle suitable for the desert, a Continental balloon tire equipped version went into production from 1942. Two types of balloon tires, a grooved and an ungrooved version were used. Because the tires were wider than normal tires, a spacer to raise the height of a spare tire attachment was added to the hood of the car. Some of the balloon tire equipped Type 82 were even used in Italy after the fighting in North Africa stopped in May of 1943. Including variations, about 51,000 Kubelwagen Type 82 were produced by the end of the war.

About the U.S.M151A2 FORD MUTT Model
The U.S. Armoured vehicle test course is located in Aberdeen, Maryland, and is one of the most rigorous and demanding coursed in the world. Early in April 1957, a familiar looking small vehicle was seen to be running over the course with comparitive ease, and upon closer inspection it turned out to be the replacement for the well known Willy`s "Jeep", the new Ford M151. Outwardly this new vehicle loos very much like its older brother. Both are small, compact, rugged, simple to operate and maintain; however, the 151 incorporates all of the latest advanced features learned during combat operations in conflicts since world war II. Features such as the newly developed OHV engine, light semimonocoque body and 4 wheel independent suspension systems allowed it to outpoint all other submitted replacement vehicles for the ageing WWII Jeep. Development for this replacement vehicle was started by the Ford Motor Company were licensed to produce the vehicle and they delivered approximately 10,000 units a year to the U.S. Army, Navy Air Force and Marines. Shortly after its adoption it was selected by most of the nations of the free world as a replacement for their own light utility vehicles. Some of the advanced features incorporated into the M151 caused problems and defects were detected in the initial shipments, among the most serious was the strength and stability of the rear suspension system which was corrected and improved in 1964 and 1970. The M151A2 now in service has added safety features like stiffer rear suspension, large blinder lamps and a two step windshield wiper, safety glass and an impact absorbing steering wheel. With its extreme versatitliy the basic M151 can be altered into a combat ambulance; radio communications vehicle; 105mm recoilless rifle transport and a launcher for the new tow missile system adopted in the late 70`s. Combat experience in VietNam has shown that the Ford M151 Military Utility Tactical Truck (MUTT) is indeed a very versatile go anywhere combat weapon and is likely to remain in service for years to come with military forces worldwide.

About the British SAS Jeep Model
The SAS is short for the Special Air Service. This was a special service unit organized in 1941 by young British officer David Stirling and showed activity in the desert of North Africa. The only one mission of the SAS was to weaken the enemy by infiltrating deep through enemy lines and harassing the rear. It was the Jeep that the SAS used as their main means of transport. Although inferior to the Chevrolet Truck in loading capacity, the Jeep with superior cross-country ability was best suited for the mission of the SAS.

About the German 38cm Assault Mortar Sturmtiger
A very rare variant of the much feared Tiger I heavy tank, was the "Sturmtiger" assault weapon that mounted a gigantic 38cm caliber mortar on the tank chassis. Development was initiated in August 1943 and was intended for uses against heavily fortified areas. Th short barreled L/5.4, type RW61 mortar was originally developed by Rheinmetall-Borsig, for the German navy`s land-based protection against an enemy submarine attack. In order to withstand the heavy recoil of up to 40 tons, the Tiger I`s sturdy chassis was selected. A decision was made to use only those chassis/hulls that were sent back from the front, so that new production of the tank would not be affected. A fighting compartment was formed of a boxlike superstructure which was bolted to the lower hull itself. Its armor plate measured 150mm thick at the front and 80mm on the sides. Later, a steel ring counterweight was added to the mouth of the mortar barrel on some vehicles to make elevation aiming easier. The mortar`s huge self propelled rocket projectile was 149cm long and weighed 330kg. For loading these heavy rockets aboard, a hand cranked crane was mounted to the right aft side of the upper hull. Due to the rocket`s size, storage space was very limited and only 14 shells could be carried. Conversion production of the Sturmtiger began in August 1944, and by the end of December a total of 18 units had been completed and sent to the front for action during the final stage of the conflict.

Model includes high quality Cartograf decals for 4 sets of markings depicting planes serving with U.S. Navy and Marine Corps fighter squadrons.

About the Vought F4U-1 Bird Cage Corsair
In 1938, the U.S. Navy issued a call for a new high-speed and high-altitude capable single-seat carrier based fighter plane to replace the Grumman F2F/F3F biplane. The Vought aircraft company rose to the challenge with their F4U Corsair, which mounted a massive 2,000hp engine and was fitted with the largest propeller yet used on a fighter. It was instantly recognizable for its inverted gull wings, which were designed to enable short and sturdy landing gears, while still providing enough clearance for the propeller. The F4U was the first U.S. fighter to exceed 400mph (644km/h) in level flight and was one of the most successful American planes introduced during WWII. The first production model F4U-1 was nicknamed `Bird Cage` for its frame-like cockpit canopy, and was deployed to U.S. Navy and Marine Corps squadrons in the Pacific as a land and carrier based fighter.

Features
1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Vought F4U-1 Bird Cage Corsair.

Kit represents first production model F4U-1, including intricate detailing of the frame-like cockpit canopy that earned this plane the nickname, Bird Cage.

New parts depict canopy, propeller, short tail wheel and wing trailing flap without access step.

High quality Cartograf decals for 4 different markings of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps planes, including aircraft from the well-known VMF-214 Black Sheep and VF-17 Jolly Rogers squadrons.

Introduction
Tamiya`s 1/48 scale North American P-51D Mustang is widely considered by aviation model enthusiasts as the most accurate and well-engineered scale model kit of this aircraft. This criticallyacclaimed aircaft kit has now been packaged together with a new 1/48 scale Military Miniature Staff Car to add another element to the models display possibilities.

About the P-51D MUSTANG & US Staff Car
When the U.S. formally entered WWII in 1941, its automobile industry was called upon by President Roosevelt to become the "Arsenal of Democracy." Detroit responded by halting new car development and changing its assembly lines to churn out tanks, planes, and other war equipment. The 4-door sedan selected for use as a military staff car was the last new car model available until the end of hostilities in 1945. It featured distinctive "suicide" rear doors, V8 engine, and had a fuel-fired heater in the passenger compartment.

Features
Combination set containing 1/48 scale assembly kit models of the North American P-51D Mustang and staff car.

Existing P-51D kit (ITEM 61089) parts used, with brand new sprues included for pilot figure and fuel tanks, as well as 3 types of new markings.

The staff car is the first of its kind in this scale, and the new moldings accurately reproduce its rounded body and distinctive bulbous fenders.

Staff car also features die-cast chassis to give it an additional sense of volume.

The F-16 has become one of the most widely-used jet fighters in the world, and has therefore undergone a series of upgrades throughout its service life with various air forces. The Block 25entered service in 1984 and featured upgraded radar and cockpit avionics. The Block 32 was the first upgrade affected by a program to use different engines in the F-16, and continued to use Pratt & Whitney engines, while the Block 30 used engines made by General Electric. The Block 32 has been upgraded to carry a wide range of weapons, including the LITENING II laser targeting pod, which enables precision attack capability with laser-guided bombs.

About The Messerschmitt Me262 A-1a

The revolutionary Messerschmitt Me262 was the first ever jet powered plane to see real action. This impressive fighter was equipped with two Jumo004B engines that allowed the Me262 to reach a top speed of 870km/h. The construction of pre-production aircraft designated Me262 A-0 started in April 1944, but the fighter production version that should have been the first version to be mass-produced was delayed because of Hitler`s strict contrary orders prioritizing the deployment of the fighter/bomber A-2a version. In November 1944, the Me262 A-1a fighter version was finally put into production. It was equipped with four 30mm cannons in the nose to counter Allied bombers and escorting fighters. Late production planes were equipped with hooks under the nose to mount rocket launchers and 24 R4M air-to-air rockets under the wings, making the Me262 the most feared German fighter by Allied pilots. Production of the Jumo004B turbojet engine started in June 1944. This engine featured a compressor, and measured 3.5m in length and 0.76m in diameter. It was capable of a 900kg thrust.

About the Bristol Beaufighter TF.Mk.X
Making use of its sturdy construction and ample weaponry, the RAF`s multipurpose Bristol Beaufighter fulfilled a wide variety of duties throughout World War II. At first, these planes showed their effectiveness as night interceptors, until that duty was passed on to the faster Mosquito. The Beaufighter`s main role became ground attack and anti-shipping strike.

The next generation of the Beau, the TF.Mk.X, used a 1770hp Hercules XVI engine and heightened anti-ship attack capabilities. Its deadly arsenal consisted on one eighteen-inch torpedo or two 500 lbs bombs, plus eight rocket projectiles. The nose of the plane housed a special navigation system as well as an Al Mk.8 radar for surface and submarine detection. Starting in early 1944, the TF.Mk.Xs were deployed to Coastal Squadrons 144, 235 and 404. In a typical anti-ship attack, the rocket equipped Beaus would first approach the enemies ships at low altitude, firing their rockets. The torpedo equipped Beaus would then follow up, launching their torpedoes at the weak spots of the damaged vessels.

In the Normandy Invasion, the Coastal Squadrons moved their bases to the south of England. From there, the Mk.Xs attacked and sunk many German destroyers and torpedo boats. In March 1945, in the span of only forty-eight hours, Squadrons 236 and 254, flying Mk.Xs, located and destroyed 5 U-boats.

About the German STURMPANZER IV Tank
The Panzerkampfwage IV has been described most aptly as the "workhorse" of the German armoured forces in World War 2; with continuous development throughout the war as a fighting tank, the chassis and running gear formed the basis of a number of very important self propelled weapons.

In 1942 the fighting on the Eastern Front was making even greater demands on German armoured resources, as the Soviet Army overcame the setbacks of the successful German campaign in Russia in 1941.

At this time, divisional armour consisted predominantly of the Pz Kpfw III and the Stug III, the later being armed mainly with either the short 7.5 cm gun, 10.5 cm howitzer. The need was for a heavier calibre weapon mounted in an armured chassis, sufficiently powerful for the demolition of big city buildings in the street fighting now bein experienced.

In September 1942 the German Ordnance Dept considered how the problem could best be overcome as rapidly as possible. The 15 cm heavy infantry gun, Model 1933 was a readily available weapon, and some limited experience of it in an armoured role had been gained in 1940 when a small number of Sig 33`s were mounted on the tiny Pz Kpfw I chassis. The original success of this limited conversion had led, in 1941, to the decision to build a self propelled version of the Sig 33 on the Pz Kpfw III chassis. This was like a much heavier version of the original Stug III, except that the superstructure was very much higher to accept the greater bulk of the 15 cm howitzer. By the time of the Stalingrad fighting a first pre-production run of 12 of these vehicles was available.

By this time, however, the Pz Kpfw IV was rapidly becoming the most numerous and most important of the German combat tanks, due to its ability to carry the long 7.5 cm high velocity gun. In October 1942, the deliberations about the heavy assault vehicle attracted Hitler`s personal attention. He ordered that the Sig 33 gun be fitted on the Pz Kpfw IV chassis. Due to the urgent requirement for a street fighting vehicle, the project to fit a 15cm howitzer to the Pz Kpfw IV chassis was given top priority. The new vehicle, designated Sturmpanzer IV, was improved in respect of armour protection as a result of the Stalingrad experience. The Sig 33 was modified, with its barrel in an armoured sleeve, and the resulting weapon was designated Sturmhaubitze 43 L/12. A box like armoured superstructure with sloped sides replaced the original tank superstructure. By any previous standards it was massively armoure, 100 mm on the front plate, with the nose of the vehicle given additional armour with a total thickness of 80 mm. The superstructure sides were up to 70 mm thick, and the back was up to 78 mm thick. The additional weight of the heavy armour took the total weight of the vehicle up to 30.4 tons as compared to the 22 tons of the basic Pz Kpfw IV tank. By April 1943, only six months after the requirements were finalised, the first vehicles were in service on the Russian front.

Later vehicles were built on successive production chasis of the Py Kpfw IV and there were thus Sturmpanzers IV on the Ausf G,H and J chassis. The last production type, on the J chassis, weighed less, at 28.2 tons, due to the simplifications introduced on this final type of Pz Kpfw IV chassis.

A total of 313 Sturmpanzer Ivs were built by 1945 and they served on all fronts in 1944 - 45 though were initially used on the Russian Front when first in service in 1943. Lack of close in machine gun protection proved a serious disadvantage in the close range conditions of street fighting, so the later vehicles were fitted a ball mount machine gun high on the front superstructure front. The main armament was itself in a balltype mantlet with a heavily armoured sleeve. The later production vehicles had a commander`s cupola replacing the plain roof hatch originally fitted, and a MG 34 in an AA mount was usually fitted to the cupola.

In the street fighting and close assault role of the Sturmpanzer IV was highly successful, being difficult to penetrate except by the most powerful antitank weapons at close range. The vehicle fully lived up to its name of Brummbar (Grizzly Bear) which was given to it in 1943. The chassis was very much overloaded, which led to breakdown and the need for extra careful maintenance. The Brummbar was in service until the end of the war in 1945, and has remained one of the best remembered due to its massive appearance.

Details Weight 28.2 tons (late vehicles) or 30.4 tons (early). One Stuch 43 L/12 with 38 rounds of ammunition (HE/HC/Smoke). Elevation limits 30 degrees to minus 8.5 degrees. Traverse 8 degrees each side. Range 4,700 yds. Top road speed 23.7 mph, cross country 9.5 mph. Range 80/125 miles.
